Para capturar la fragancia de una flor sin tener que matarla, aplicaciones del IFF es una clase de "camara fotografica del olor" que detecta y absorbe las particulas que rodean una planta para registrar su olor. La informacion entonces se traduce a un formula con la ayuda de la cromatografia y del spectrometry, las tecnicas que ayudan a identificar los variados componentes que componen el olor de una flor. Usando la formula, los cientificos pueden reconstruir el olor. Antes de que tales camaras fotograficas del olor estuvieran disponibles, era mas comun tener que tomar cortes de las flores, que los cientificos dicen pueden cambiar la manera que huelen. El metodo demostrado aqui se disena para capturar como una flor viva huele realmente a la nariz humana. Esta flor purpura es un Dendrobium suroriental, un hibrido de un hibrido que venga de Australia y de Nueva Guinea.
The Smell Camera
To capture the fragrance of a flower without having to kill it, IFF uses a kind of "smell camera" that detects and absorbs the particles that surround a plant to record its scent. The information is then translated into a formula with the help of chromatography and spectrometry, techniques that help identify the many components that make up a flower’s scent. Using the formula, scientists can recreate the smell. Before such smell cameras were available, it was more common to have to take cuttings from flowers, which scientists say can change the way they smell. The method shown here is designed to capture how a living flower actually smells to the human nose. This purple flower is a Dendrobium Southeast, a hybrid of a hybrid that comes from Australia and New Guinea.
